Toffees sweet but Right Result a bitter pill (Everton vs Watford 19/08/06)
Over at Goodison the home side seemed to have lady luck in their pocket when they were awarded a penalty by referee Peter Walton, who penalised Chris Powell for clearing Tim Cahill’s cross with his head! Watford’s late goal turned out to be a consolation effort in the end, but had the ref eaten his weetabix that morning he might have spotted Alan Stubb’s handball in the area which would have made it a hell of a lot more…
The panel cancels out Everton’s opening penalty given that the ball-to-head is still within the rules as far as we are aware. The Hornets are awarded a pen for Alan Stubbs blatant handball. The Right Result is therefore Everton 1 Watford 2.
