Mendes’ moment of madness (Portsmouth vs Reading 28/10/2006)

Panel DecisionPedro Mendes, a man who never seems to be out of the headlines at the moment for one unfortunate reason or another, made a blinding reaction for Pompey to deny Reading a second goal. Which would have been fine if only he’d been keeping goal! Ref Phil Dowd missed it, but he was the only one, with even Mendes himself confessing that it was a stupid thing to have done…

Pedro Mendes may receive some minor credit for ‘fessing up to his misdemeanor, but the real credit goes into Reading’s account as The Right Result Panel judges that they deserved a penalty, changing the score to a narrow 3-2 defeat.
