The Right Result

ARSENAL vs WIGAN - Lucky Arsenal…

Sunday 11th February 2007

Panel Decision

Phil Dowd had a nightmare of a match in this exciting encounter at the Emirates and Paul Jewell unsurprisingly lost his rag after his team finally went down to a 2-1 defeat.

Amongst the refereeing errors, a challenge by Flamini on Heskey should have resulted in a Wigan penalty, Adebayor had a goal disallowed for off-side when he was level with the final defender and Flamini was offside in the build-up to the Arsenal equaliser.

The Right Result was a 2-2 draw.

Actually it’s about time Wigan had some luck. The most overused phrase in football punditry is “These decisions even themselves out over a season, don’t they, Barry” - utter nonsense. If this were true we are due at least three dodgy penalties and about a dozen ludicrous red and yellow cards in the final, vital three games. The standard of refereeing is shocking and this is my nomination for worst decision of the season - it could still send us down. I applaud Paul Jewell for getting angry because I was bloody livid.
