Liverpool vs Chelsea - Champions League semi-final 2005 - THE RIGHT RESULT?

As Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez row in the build-up to tonights Champions League semi-final clash at Stamford Bridge, we look at what is now a classic and to our mind completely unresolvable Right Result call and ask you for your votes and opinions on it…

Did Luis Garcia's controversial decider at Anfield in 2005 cross the line, or did "the linesman score the goal" as claimed by the Chelsea boss after the game?

  • The ball crossed the line and it was a goal (64%)
  • Impossible to tell so the goal should not have been given (36%)

RIGHT RESULT USERS VOTED BY A MARGIN OF 64% TO 36% THAT LUIS GARCIA’S GOAL AT ANFIELD DID IN FACT CROSS THE LINE IN THEIR SEMI-FINAL BATTLE IN 2005. DISAPPOINTINGLY FOR REDS FANS THERE WAS NO DOUBT THAT COLE’S GOAL LAST NIGHT ALSO DID AND SO THEY TRAIL BY A GOAL TO NIL GOING INTO NEXT TUESDAY’S RETURN AT ANFIELD.

You can’t make the call unless you see it and so the linesman was right. Whether he ought to have got there to see it is a moot point though.

No sorry mate, the ball was over the line for me and Mourinho is just being a sore loser, and showing his true colours, as he is now with this stupid comments about Rafa Bbenitez and how he basically woulddn’t have lasted at Chelsea with his record. ****.

It was a goal, and the better team won it, simple as that. It must be on Youtube somewhere to see - the pace the ball was travelling, the distance it travelled and the time it was travelling means it must have crossed the line. Chelsea just moan about it as always.

listen the linesman give it and i think if that wud of been chelsea there would be no replays or contrevesial because rember when dider droga was claming for penaltys every game in da prem last season nothin gets sed abar that so dnt say anythin abar luis garcia’s goal.

Its a goal, it was over the line! and even if it wasnt.. then chelsea would have had a man sent of and a penalty (which people seem to forget about) so we scored a penalty an Chelsea down to 10-men… Liverpool could have then won by a bigger margin!

It is a goal and the referee should give a goal to Liverpool .

It was never over the line! It has even been proved that it wasn’t with technology. And yes in that case it should have been a penalty with Cech going off but then Cudicini would have come on and MAY have saved it. You cannot be sure that it liverpool would have converted it.
Also how many times do teams go down to 10 men and actually play better!

i honestly feel the ref actually favored chelsea by giving it a goal..otherwise..cech was a goner and with madhat carlo in goal with 10 men at anfield they faced dcimation and humiliation….a defeat nonetheless actually salvaged their pride…it would have taken chelsea chelsea years to regain their pride had liverpool screwed them that night…roma still reeling from the 7-1 thrashing last yr…de rossi blazed his kick over the bars….

The ball was over the line. Good decision by the linesman and ref. We all know Mourinho is a loud mouth that doesn’t see anything good in the next team and also a bad loser. Someone should tell him to grow up and learn to enjoy defeat as much as he enjoys victory.
