BLACKBURN ROVERS vs LIVERPOOL - Carra’s six-yard spell

Saturday 3rd November 2007

Panel Decision
Jamie Carragher’s charmed life in the six-yard box continues as the Liverpool defender once again comes under the Right Result microscope. Remarkably, for the fourth time this season, we rule against the Reds’ stalwart. This time we feel Jamie’s hand-raising offence should have resulted in a match-winning penalty for in-form Blackburn Rovers.

The Right Result is a 1-0 win for Blackburn Rovers.

Yo - Carra does it again. What does this man have to do concede a penalty. Rumour has it that he’s going to take a rocket launcher onto the pitch for the next match - just to see if he can get away with that one too.

I’m certainly no Liverpool fan, and I think Carra is a bit of a ****, but it didn’t look like a handball to me. It seemed to be ball-to-hand, and I think the officials don’t call that more often than they do call it.

So, I think it’s only 3/4 incidents that deserved a penatly, but didn’t get one.

get real adam - his hands were above his head and he stopped a goal bound effort. Other players have been red-carded for that offence in recent weeks.

I agree with mick. A ref can only rule it ball-to-hand if the hand in question is in a reasonable place — which really comes down to ‘at your side’ or maintaining balance. in the prem even covering your face from a short range blast from someone like RVP is a handball. Having your hand over your head is a clear handball everytime.

I’m with Alex and Mick on this, any time hands are above the head is just asking for trouble and pens are given for it all the time.

Fair enough, that seems like a reasonable argument.

So there’s no RR update on the Arsenal v Man Utd game? But Ferguson says Webb cheated! Plus the fact that Arsenal should have had a penalty when Vidic tried to swap shirts with Hleb, and the possibility that Brown fouled Hleb in the build up to Utd’s first goal.

Mark. Calm down - calm down. Fergie says Webb cheated!!! goodness me - must be true then. This site is about objective analysis - not insane ramblings. Please - collect your thoughts (it may take you some time) and then come back and make your point!

Mick, I was being sarcastic with my point about Fergie. However, the fact remains that Arsenal should have had a penalty and thet Man Urd’s first goal possibly should have been disallowed due to Brown fouling Hleb.

I’ll ignore your insults this time and put it down to the fact that you thought I actually agreed with Fergie, but try to consider what has actually been written in future.

If this site wants to matain the credibility it has, SOMETHING has to be said about the blatant penalty Webb ommited when Vidic clearly grabbed Hleb.

See my comment in the Birmy v Villa post. I hope the site creator reads the comments because if they don’t review the Arsenal game (in which I believe Hleb was also pushed in the penalty box with the score at 0-0), you’re right, they deserve just about as much credibility as the FA or EPL.
