BIRMINGHAM CITY vs ASTON VILLA - Second for City in second city

Sunday 11th November 2007

Panel Decision
An action-packed second city derby should also have featured a second goal for Birmingham City. Viewed from behind the goal, it is clear that Aston Villa defender Zat Knight handled inside the area and, furthermore, there was a deliberate upward movement of his arm to deny Blues forward Cameron Jerome any chance of retaining possession.

The Right Result is a 2-2 draw.

Where’s the Arsenal v Manchester United game? Has it not been reviewed? There were quite a few calls that should’ve been made (and no, Webb didn’t favor Arsenal). If this game’s not reviewed, what others haven’t been?

We can confirm that all Premier League games are reviewed.

Are you saying then that the 2:2 scoreline for Arsenal v Man Utd was correct? If that’s the case I’d like to see the justification for it because two possible penalty claims and a foul in the lead-up to a goal deserve an explanation.

I agree with Papa Smurf. Arsenal definitely should have had a penalty for the Vidic foul on Hleb, and there’s a very good chance that Brown fouled Hleb shortly before Man Utd’s first goal. Please can The Right Result explain their decision?

In the Arsenal - Manchester United game, we also looked at a possible handball by Owen Hargreaves (in a challenge with Gael Clichy) that would have been a penalty to Arsenal. After due consideration - and in our opinion - we agreed with referee Howard Webb in all three cases so there were no changes to the scoreline.

Am I the only one here that’s, to put it mildly, astounded by this conclusion? And I had to push for this minimal discussion of a top-of-the-table match. Oh well, I guess I won’t revisit this site much now.

All three cases mentioned were judgement calls and, as such, are subjective rather than determining if a ball was over the line, a tackle inside / outside the area etc.
To reflect the incidents as genuinely and fairly as possible, we feel that a referee’s decision should only be overturned if there is overwhelming opposition from the panel.
As it is subjective, we accept that total agreement is desirable but - as proven by the growing interest being shown in this site - unlikely.
We continue to be grateful for all contributions and observations.

Oh well, I should’ve known that ManU gets favors from everyone. Silly for me to believe that this website would be an exception.

Seems to me that Pompey are getting the favours mate, we’re on for a Champions League spot according to this table, NICE!! If Harry boy managed to get Pompey there surely they’d have to give him an overdue shot at managing England.

I don’t undestand, what’s the subjective thing in Vidic grabbing Hleb CLEARLY inside the penalty area? What were the reasons for not considering that one a penalty? The grab was blatant.

The problem with your system and the video evidence argument is that you still get it wrong. You saw the Zat Knight handball but failed to see that De Ridder did not dive, he was fouled. The Right Result is a 3-2 win to Birmingham.
