TELL SID IT’S OVER – FOOTBALL’S FLIRTATION WITH FLOTATION
One of the few recognisable upsides of individuals, foreign or domestic, buying whole football clubs is their disappearance (‘de-listing’) from the Stock Market – many of them among the vanguard who went floating down various market routes in the mid-90s…before nearly sinking.
It was called ‘shareholder democracy’ in Thatcher’s Britain when nationalised utilities were sold off, ‘giving’ (selling) individuals ownership of electricity, telecommunications and, most memorably thanks to enigmatic TV ads urging people to ‘tell Sid’, gas companies. Companies previously owned by…er…them.

BLACKBURN ROVERS vs LIVERPOOL - Carra’s six-yard spell
Saturday 3rd November 2007

Jamie Carragher’s charmed life in the six-yard box continues as the Liverpool defender once again comes under the Right Result microscope. Remarkably, for the fourth time this season, we rule against the Reds’ stalwart. The Right Result is a 1-0 win for Blackburn Rovers.

FULHAM vs READING - One in and one out at the Cottage
Saturday 3rd November 2007

Fulham clinched their first Premier League win since 15 August with a deserved 3-1 win against Reading, although maybe not quite in the way it first appeared. We’ve ruled that Fulham should have added to their tally from the penalty spot when Royals defender Michael Duberry handled in front of goal. However David Healy’s late strike should have been disallowed as, in his eagerness to score, the Northern Irish ace advanced into an offside position.
The Right Result is a 3-1 win for Fulham.

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs PORTSMOUTH - Toon hand it to Pompey
Saturday 3rd November 2007

Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth are emerging as genuine Champions League contenders, especially after their spectacular 4-1 win at Newcastle United. It was Pompey’s first win at St James’ Park since 1949 and it should have been even more emphatic. To add to United’s defensive confusion, substitute David Rozehnal clearly committed a handball offence from a Portsmouth corner.
The Right Result is a 5-1 win for Portsmouth.
