READING v PORTSMOUTH - Marcus makes mayhem
Tuesday 1st January 2008

Reading start the new year as the finished the old with a favourable Right Result decision. Although Saturday’s corrections salvaged a point in the goals deluge at Tottenham Hotspur, the first ruling of 2008 merely softens the blow of a home defeat against Portsmouth. Pompey’s opener followed a howler of a mistake by Royals keeper Marcus Hahnemann. It left the American goalie out-of-position and ahead of the play as Sol Campbell turned the ball in to the net. It also meant that Kalifa Cisse was not only the last outfield player but, more importantly, the only man between the goalscorer and the goal so Sol was offside.
The Right Result is a 1-0 win for Portsmouth.

Didn’t Hahnemann spill a cross to Campbell, meaning that Sol could not be offside as the ball was played by the Reading man?
