MANCHESTER UNITED v NEWCASTLE UNITED - After eight?
Saturday 12th January 2008

A traumatic week on Tyneside ended with a merciless mauling at Manchester United for Newcastle United. The managerless Toon conceded six second-half goals at Old Trafford, and it should have been even worse. The home United should have been awarded a first-half penalty when Alan Smith tripped Ryan Giggs and another spot-kick after the break when Stephen Carr pushed Rio Ferdinand. Not that it can be considered in any way a consolation, but Newcastle should have got on the scoresheet as Michael Owen’s ‘goal’, that was ruled out for offside, should have stood.
The Right Result is a 8-1 win for Manchester United.

You’ve got this wrong. Ronaldo dived to try get penalty in the first half rules are thats a booking, then dived for free kick for first goal equals second yellow - red card. 3 goals taken off there. Then there was the sixth which clearly didn’t cross the line. Correct score 4-1.

Totally agree, Ronaldo did dive and so his first hat-trick shouldn’t count, nice!
The RR site should factor in this kind of stuff - ie he should have been booked twice, good idea Andrew. BUT on that basis he’d miss the next 3 games so how do you factor that in…? Just apply it to the specific game I guess would be fair.

The ball for the 6th goal did not cross the line (recall the whole ball must cross the line and the TV replays showed that only 3/4 or so did so).
This is a commonly misunderstood law by so called knowledgable commentators. You must be able to see BOTH sides of the ball beyond the post not just SOME or MOST of the ball.
Therefore 7-1

Hey ya.
I totaly disagree with the 8-1 score.
Owen should have given NUFC the lead 1-0, and there is no way they would have lost 8-1 after leading 1-0.
Maybe Giggs should have been awarded a penalty, so I can give them a goal there to be fair.
Ronaldos first goal was never ever a free kick and the last goal was never over the line. Then we will have a right result of 5-1…
If you also remove the mistakes from the Newcastle defend we would have a 2-1 score

The right result is considerably less.
Man U’s first shouldn’t have stood because Ronaldo dived, and Rooney illegally blocked off Shay Given for what proved to be Man U’s second.
One of the penalties should have been given, the other probably not.
7-1 is the right result.
If we weren’t stupid defenders, it would be 0-1.

Ooops…
I wrote it should’ve been 7-1 when in reality it should’ve been 5-1.

your forgetting the steven carr tacle on rio ferdinand in the box, it was a blatant push and should have been a penalty. right result 9-1….or 10-1 because Newcastle really do suck.

8-1 to Man U? What a joke. Newc had 4 big decisions against them.
1) Owen goal was onside
2) Ronaldo wasnt fouled for first goal freekick
3) Tevez goal never crossed the line
4) Ferdinand was offside for his goal
Is this site done by a Man U fan?
right result should be 4-2 Man U and thats only if you ignore all the blatant Ronaldo dives which should result in 2 bookings at some stage.
