Henry wrongly denied (Fulham vs Arsenal 30/11/2006)

Panel DecisionWith the score at 2-1 to Fulham, Thierry Henry scored a beautifully finished goal that was disallowed for offside. Video replays clearly show that the French striker was level with the last defender when the ball was played…

The panel adjudges Henry’s goal should have stood and the Right Result is therefore a 2-2 draw.

Watford denied yet again (Watford vs Sheffield United 28/11/06)

Panel DecisionNeil Warnock was delighted with a last minute goal that edged a result for The Blades, and clearly felt he was owed some luck after the weekend’s result at West Ham when his side were denied a draw following Rob Kozluk’s disallowed goal (see separate post). However, as if it wasn’t enough for poor Aidy Boothroyd that the winner was netted by a former Watford man in Danny Webber, to add insult to injury the goal was clearly offside! Watford then had two calls for a penalty in quick succession waved away, the second for a Kozluk handball in the area.

The panel adjudged that the goal was indeed offside and a penalty should have been given for Kozluk’s hand ball and so the Right Result is 1-0 to Watford.

Martins goal wrongly ruled out (Newcastle vs Middlesbrough 26/11/2006)

Panel DecisionIn a game dominated by Newcastle but featuring a splendid performance by David James, Obafemi Martin’s first-half goal was disallowed for offside but video analysis suggests that the pacy Nigerian was level…

The Right Result Panel adjudges that Martins was indeed level and therefore scored a legitimate goal - the Right Result is Newcastle 2 Portsmouth 0.

Blades denied legitimate goal (West Ham vs Sheffield Utd 25/11/2006)

Panel DecisionSheffield United’s Rob Kozluk had a goal disallowed for a foul on Hammers stopper Rob Green, but whether the ref called it right is debatable, and closer inspection would suggest he got it wrong…

In separate incident West Ham had a call for a penalty following a push by Steven Kabba, but the foul was committed outside the area.

The Right Result Panel adjudges the Rob Kozluk goal should have stood and the Right Result is West Ham 1 Sheffield United 1.

Gallagher denies two penalties (Fulham vs Reading 25/11/2006)

Panel DecisionIn a game in which Ian Pearce was somewhat harshly sent off for a mistimed tackle when he was the last man, two stron penalty appeals were denied by stalwart ref Dermot Gallagher. In the first instance, Fulham’s Radzinski was upended by Nicky Shorey on 59, but the seasoned old warhorse DG waved it off and awarded Reading a goal kick much to the chagrin of the Cottagers. The second incident involved a good shout for Reading when the argumentative Luis Boa Morte pulled Ki-Hyeon back in the box…

Having analysed the video evidence The Right Result Panel adjudges that both these penalties should have been given and the Right Result is therefore Fulham 1 Reading 2.

Christie goal offside (Villa vs Boro 25/11/2006)

Panel DecisionMalcolm Christie was offside for Middlesbrough’s goal, and he came straight out and admitted it! Granted, it’s not difficult to feel that a guy dogged by injuries for the last 4 years (he’s turned out just 14 times in his Middlesborough career) deserves a break, but none-the-less offside is offside, so not really a touch call for the panel…

…who decided that Christie’s goal should be disallowed, and chalked it off to give a Right Result of Aston Villa 1 Middlesbrough 0.

Watford denied again? (Pompey vs Watford 18/11/2006)

Panel Decision

Another EPL game full of controversy ended with fury from Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd who not only disputed the Kanu penalty decision, but claimed two penalties for the Hornets! Video analysis shows that Kanu’s last minute pen was onside and that he was fouled, so the Portsmouth penalty stands. But the Right Result Panel has adjudged that a penalty should definitely have been given for a push by Noe Pamarot on Darius Henderson meaning that Watford should have been awarded a penalty. Unfortunately for the Hornets the Right Result Panel has also decided that their initial goal came from a corner which should not have been given as it should have been a goal kick. Which leaves the possible penalty to Watford for a handball by Linvoy Primus when the score was still 0-0. The ball clearly struck his hand - but it was accidental…

The actual result was The Right Result - 2-1.

Should a penalty have been given for a Mido Handball? (Blackburn vs Spurs 19/11/06)

Panel Decision

In an ill-tempered match that had three sendings off (if you include Spurs boss Martin Jol - although his was later rescinded after an apparent mis-communication with the ref!), the major Right Result decision was that Blackburn ought to have had a penalty awarded for a Mido handball with the score at 1-1.

The Right Result was 2-1 to Blackburn.

Scousers denied overdue victory (Boro vs Liverpool 18/11/2006)

Panel DecisionLiverpool FC couldn’t buy an away win at the moment even when they are playing well. Rafa Benitez might have been stretching it a bit when he lamented that “if we play like this we’ll win 99 times out of 100″, although a questionable decision by ref Mason cost Liverpool the opportunity to break their homesick hoodoo when Boateng clearly fouled Kuyt in the penalty area…

The Right Result Panel adjudges a penalty should have been given and The Right Result is Boro 0 Liverpool 1.

At least he’s consistent! (Reading vs Charlton 18/11/2006)

Panel DecisionThe “country’s top ref” isn’t having the best season of it so far, and so perhaps given his current form we shouldn’t be surprised that Graham Poll lashed up again when he missed Talal El Karkouri’s blatant foul on Stephen Hunt in the penalty area!

The Right Result Panel adjudges a penalty should have been awarded and the Right Result is Reading 3 Charlton 0.
