The rules that the Right Result panel apply when examining controversial decisions and calculating how the outcome of matches is affected are below, along with a word about The Donkey…
1) Penalties adjudged to have been given are assumed to be scored (as penalty takers fail to score from less than a quarter of kicks taken in the Premiership).
2) Where an indirect free kick should have been given inside the penalty area to the attacking side, it is assumed to be missed.
3) Score changes are related to specific decisions only (e.g. a red card for a player does not change the score - even if the player who scores should not have been on the pitch at the time.)
4) If a free kick or a corner is wrongly awarded to a team and that team scores from it (or in the move that started from the free kick or corner) the goal will be disallowed.
5) If a free kick or a corner is wrongly not given to a team and the opposing team scores or is awarded a penalty in the same move, the goal or the penalty will be disallowed.
6) Rules 4 & 5 do not apply to situations where a team should have been awarded a penalty or not had a goal disallowed in the previous move. These free kicks or corners are regarded as legitimate.

Occasionally you may see the Right Result Donkey. The donkey will be appear next to any comments that the panel do not feel are appropriate for the site. You don’t have to be a broadsheet journo, but reasonably informed comments are preferred, and any insulting, simple-minded or just plain stupid comments that are written without any thought whatsoever will be greeted by Tony the donkey.
